TRANSISTORS ® A transistor is a semiconductor device that controls current between two terminals based on the current or voltage at a third terminal and is used for the amplification or switching of electrical signals. The three regions are called emitter, base, and collector. Representations of the two types of bipolar transistors are shown in Figure |(b) and (c). One type consists of two 7 regions separated by a p region (mp), and the other consists of two p regions separatedby an 7 region (pip).
