This chapter presents the studies and literature that the researchers used to support the importance of the current investigation. The process, equations, and steps required to understand the subject clearly are also provided. Local Related Studies: The wooden bridge was continuously saturated with seawater, exposed to heat and rain, and managed by NHA's general manager, Marcelino P. Escalada Jr. "That is a wooden footbridge that has been immersed in seawater and exposed to the elements. He added that aside from being "a footbridge for humans, it is also utilized by tricycles," and that it can quickly decay 300 times quicker than any other wooden bridge. He also stated that "just like any other bridge, whether it's steel, suspended, or concrete bridge, may load limit siya." Even more so, considering the footbridge. Maybe the weight used to support the bridge wasn't running, moving weight (National Housing Authority, 2018). In constructing a footbridge, not only the specifications are included, materials and the design of the bridge itself, but also other factors must be included such as the ambiance that affects the load of the footbridge like the water with such elements and the geological elements of the soil that holds the columns of the bridge. Foreign Related Studies The best alternative for spans of 10 to 20 meters, and maybe up to 25 meters, where it is not feasible to build piers for intermediate supports for beam type footbridges, is a steel truss footbridge. When piers are an option, it should also be considered for spans over 10 meters (DESIGN OF STEEL TRUSS FOOTBRIDGE, n.d.). When beam types of footbridge reaches a very long span, there is a chance
that at the mid span of the beam can no longer support its shear strength. Steel truss can produce forces that can strengthen the life span of the bridge whenever the span is large. At a 100-foot wide Quinebaug River crossing, the Grand Trunk Trail's East Brimfield Section is currently cut off. An historic trolley line bridge that crossed the river in the early 1900s was located here. This land is owned by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), who would like to support the Brimfield Trail Committee and other local trail committees in their efforts to continue the Grand Trunk Trail across the river. The goal of this project was to create three different bridge designs and choose a fourth option —a prefabricated bridge—to test out before recommending one design to the USACE for approval. The designs were assessed using four phases before a recommendation was made to the USACE and the Brimfield Trail Committee (BTC) (Alemian & Flannagan, 2011).
in studying the area of a bridge, as foundation can be critical for constructing a structure that relies too much on the friction of the soil. Soil testing are useful to determine and to classify the type of soil that will be used for the foundation of the bridge.
