QUESTION 01
Describe the experimental technology used by unscrupulous scientists in creating ‘genetic
doubles’ of people with transplant needs. Explain the science behind the procedure
Kevin and his colleagues are working on the genes for minor histocompatibility antigens. They
're moving them from a specific chromosome in one cell and sticking them into the same
location on the same chromosome in another cell, particularly the short arm of chromosome six
from one cell to another, from one species to another. They have created some kind of chimera
with these apes’ called bonobos. He was creating a custom - designing perfect organ transplant
source for a specific individual. Kevin Marshal gets a bone - marrow sample (preferably a stem
cell) from a client then isolates a cell preparing to divide so that the chromosomes are
condensed. Then, he adds his secret transponase he discovered seven years ago that catalyzes
the homologous transposition or crossing over of the short arms of chromosome six to a client
's cell that is preparing to divide. By detaching short arms of the chromosomes, he halts the
crossing over. After that, he extracts the detached part of the chromosome arm. After that,
Melanie takes care of the double 's birth through in vitro fertilization techniques using the
Bonobo 's egg and sperm. She’s using the same techniques that were developed to increase the
fertility of captive mountain gorillas. Kevin and Melanie have to coordinate because Melanie
will be Kevin 's signal in proceeding to the next step. When she delivers the ready to divide
zygote, Kevin repeats exactly the same procedure to the zygote that he 'd just done with the
client 's cell. After removing the bonobo short arms, he injects the client 's short arms into the
zygote. Through the help of his secret transponase the detached client 's short arm of
chromosome six will hook right up exactly where they are supposed to be. Then they will put
the zygote into a female bonobo in order for the client 's double to born. After years, if the
organs are mature enough to be transplanted, they will carry out the operation and the
procedure called xenograft where in an animal organ or tissue dial is transplanted into a human.
The bonobo double will have the same organs to the client that is why there is no rejection
when they will transplant the organ from the double to the client.
The genetic double experiment is a biological program that introduces human genome to
bonobo to become transgenic animals as reservoirs of organs which can, with a little
manipulation, be used in humans. It started with Kevin Marshall 's discovery of the
homologous transposition in the chromosome 6 where it is the major gene for
histocompatibility complex. The procedure starts with isolating the short arms of chromosome
6 and other minor histocompatibility antigens in the human patient ' s stem cells before crossing
over happens. It uses tranponase to transfer the short arms and inserting it in the developing
bonobo zygote ' s chromosome. The bonobo ages and become the immunological double of the
patient which they have compatible organs to transfer without any rejection reaction at all.
QUESTION 02

culprits did to avert disaster.

QUESTION 01

Describe the experimental technology used by unscrupulous scientists in creating ‘genetic doubles’ of people with transplant needs. Explain the science behind the procedure Kevin and his colleagues are working on the genes for minor histocompatibility antigens. They 're moving them from a specific chromosome in one cell and sticking them into the same location on the same chromosome in another cell, particularly the short arm of chromosome six from one cell to another, from one species to another. QUESTION 02 Relate circumstances which threatened the well-placed scam of exposure. Relate what the culprits did to avert disaster.

The death of Carlo Franconi, a known Mafia figure who 'd became one of the patients of this double program who 'd received a liver transplant from his double Bonobo were the first threat to them. Autopsy was needed in order to know the cause of death as well as other evidences that could help the investigation of his death. However, having an autopsy can reveal the unethical doings of the Gensys. They resolved the problem by abducting the dead body of Franconi at the Morgue by the group of Vinnie Dominick. They cut the head and the hands of Franconi and rained bunch of shotgun pellets on the abdomen where liver can be found then thrown the body on the river then later found by the authorities. At first Jack and Laurie thought it was an unknown man, but later on discovered it was Franconi because of the mitochondrial DNA match of his mother. The second threat was about Cindy Carlson, the sixteen-year-old daughter of Albright Carlson, the Wall Street junk-bond mogul. Dr. Daniel had recruited Albright and his daughter as clients. As a youngster the daughter had suffered from glomerulonephritis. The malady had worsened during the girl's early teens to the point of kidney failure. After the surgery, she became healthy but not her mental state. She's depressed to the point she wanted to attempt suicide on two occasions. If this attempt will succeed, it will be a big threat again to the Genesys because suicide cases undergo autopsy and it will reveal the secret operation of the company. Their solution to this problem is to make Cindy Carlson disappear. Dr. Raymond then contacted Vinnie Dominick again to do the work, killing the teenager in exchange of another year of free tuition to the program. The genetic doubles project was threatened when the body of Franconi disappeared in the morgue, this brought Laurie to a suspicion about the incident on why does anybody wanted the body to get rid of like there is something that they don't want to be discovered by the autopsy. Next is the discovery of the floater with decapitated head and arms, this body was investigated by Jack and found that it had gone through organ transplant just a few months prior to the discovery. The culprits averted the incoming disaster by snatching the remains of Franconi so that it will not be autopsied and found that the organs do not came from humans. And they also did precaution to the floater by getting rid of the head and arms so that it cannot be identified by the medical examiners. The next threat to the project is the curiosity of Dr. Kevin Marshall on the smoke originated from the Isla Francesca. It made him wonder what could it be and started to investigate and go with his friends to the island. His curiosity threatened Siegfried and assigned soldiers to watch over Kevin and when he found out that he gone to the island without any permission he tried to scare and warn him by sending out soldiers and temporarily imprisoning them in the local jail. QUESTION 03 Explain the sequence of events which led Dr. Marshall and his friends to investigate things that were happening. Explain features (and behavior) of the Bonobo monkeys which were

transgenic bonobo resides. This led him to ask about the situation in the island if there was someone allowed to camp in there and when he knew that it is forbidden to go to the island, he began to think that the bonobo is using fire. When he asked his fellow doctors about what happened during the retrieval operation, he realized that the aggression of the bonobo and recognized the retrieval schedule is not like them but his opinion was neglected by the doctors by saying that it was just a lighting and his imagination. Dr. Marshal and his friends began to discuss about the bonobo behavior and the genetic double experiment, he told them that he made a mistake by inserting more than enough of the human genome to the bonobo and he is afraid that he made them more aware of themselves. He started to think that the behavior showed by the bonobo during the retrieval is more of a human-like aggression and they decided to ask the only person that feeds the bonobo. Upon there, they gathered new information about the behavior of the bonobo where they become bipedal and showed aggression towards other primates during feeding time, on top of that they learned how to do sign language and communicate among them. QUESTION 04 Explain ethical issues and benefits (depending on which view you are willing to espouse) associated with the manipulation of the human genome. If you were the scientist in question, what would you have done? If I were a scientist, I would be astounded by this finding and laud Kevin 's amazing mind, but I would not dismiss the negative aspects of the situation. They must confront the consequences of their deeds, which mercifully only generate protohumans rather than frightening beasts like in sci - fi movies or zombies. We ca not deny that Dr. Marshal 's discovery of a Chromosome 6 transponase was a huge assistance in treating a variety of disorders. Unfortunately, money and their interests were the driving force behind this endeavor, rather than aiding those who actually needed it. They could only help people with a lot of money, even if it meant breaking medical and animal ethics. Actually, it was a huge boost to the scientific community because finding a match is difficult, and even finding a perfect match donor organ is impossible. This type of protocol ensures that no rejection occurs during the procedure. Imagine if it was used correctly and the study was conducted openly with the scientific community, Kevin 's chances of making a mistake like generating a protohuman would be reduced. What if he built something more hazardous, capable of harming humans rather than assisting them? That is why it is critical to conduct research in a good way since the dangers and risks of the repercussions may be too great to be controlled, causing harm and suffering to creatures, particularly people. If the study and operation were simply conducted properly and in accordance with ethical guidelines, it may benefit a large

number of patients around the world and actually become a hero for them. There are a lot of benefits from manipulating human genome in health and medicine world, it can extend the life expectancy of individual and improve its living condition. But in the case of transgenic bonobos where they are already endangered and threatened to human organ reservoir, it should be terminated and consider the lives of the animals. These creatures are unaware of the existence of technology and just living the best of their lives in isolation, it is unethical in human sense that we disturbed and experimented on these poor creatures. We are considered to be on the highest in the food chain among other animals it is because we are capable of rational thinking and empathy towards other creatures, so we must rethink of our actions with a sense of humanity before doing so because if not we are as good as a wild animal. It is very unethical to perform such experiment on these innocent creatures that results in suffering on their way of living, they cannot show any emotions nor ask for mercy on us but you can clearly see the way their bodies and behaviors respond to the changes we made to them. If I were the scientist responsible for this discovery, I would not continue my research and save the creatures from the humanity ' s greed. I will stop developing any progress if I discovered that it can do more harm than good to the world. It is meaningless to discover new innovations at the price of your conscience and insanity. QUESTION 05 From where the story ended, write a sequel describing scenarios that will possibly unfold in the years to come. Scientific Community will acknowledge the protocol of Dr. Kevin's work and will make it feasible to other test subjects. They will make the protocol perfect that can't cause rise of unwanted results such as what happened on Kevin's previous work. Other researcher will also conduct studies related with his protocol following ethics and trying other subjects such as pigs. This time using pigs as a subject, through the collaborative efforts of scientists, it may be successful which means, it can also work on pigs reducing animal ethical issues such as what Candace suggested. Then, the study might bring light and hope to the patients who needs transplants. This protocol might be the key also of genetic diseases for them to have treatment. It can may be the foundation of another protocol such as removing the mutated part and changing it by a normal one. The transgenic bonobos on the other hand will be also become a subject of study that might help in answering the questions of how come the early human become what we are today. The evolution might also answer other scientific transformation of human body and medical questions that can help also in developing medicines and medical services.
