gestation. He had Apgar scores of 8 and 9. He was circumcised. The mother is breast-
feeding. Your unit requires a full assessment, screenings, discharge instructions, and

Medical Diagnosis: Large-for-gestational-age (LGA):
-Medical Definition: LGA is described as a newborn whose birth weight is above the
90th percentile on a growth chart and who weigh more than 4,000 g (8 lb 13 oz) at term
due to accelerated growth for length of gestation (Herranz et al., 2007).
Nursing Diagnosis: Risk for gestational age related to birth weight
Risk factors:
-Maternal diabetes mellitus during pregnancy ( higher glucose level stimulates
continued insulin production by the fetus.
