This subject introduces students about the positive and negative impacts of
heritage tourism on physical factor. It focuses as well on the positive and negative
impacts of heritage on sociocultural factors.This topic could also involves
understandings on positive and negative impacts of heritage tourism on economic
factors.
LEARNING COUTCOMES
At the end of the discussion the students will be able to:
1. Familiarize with the positive and negative impacts of heritage tourism on physical
factor
2. Enumerate the list of positive and negative impacts of heritage on sociocultural
factors.
3. List down the positive and negative impacts of heritage tourism on economic
factors..
CONTENT
Negative impacts of heritage tourism on physical factor
1. Inevitable physical decline of the condition of a monument from time and
usage
2. Moisture created by breathing, sweating & touching
3. Litter/pollution
4. Vandalism & “souvenir hunting”
5. Damage to historic site environments as a result of excessive visitor
pressures.
6. The behavior of heritage visitors and their numbers (particularly at peak
times) are slowly destroying the very things that attracted them in the first
place.
