Students intending to concentrate must have completed the basic Portuguese language sequence at Columbia (or Portuguese 1220 for those who are Spanish speakers), or have passed a Portuguese placement exam. Distribution of courses: a. 4 required courses: PORT 3101Conversation about the Portuguese World PORT 3300 Advanced Language through Content PORT 3330 Introduction to Portuguese Studies PORT 3350 Lusophone Africa and Afro-Brazilian Cultures b. four electives: 2 must have PORT designation 2 may be taken outside the department but must have Lusophone content. c. only two courses taught in English may be counted toward the concentration
