Konami Corporation Konami Corporation is known as an Japanese entertainment and gaming corporation. The company originally opened in 1969 in Osaka, Japan under the name Konami Industry Co. During that time the company originally a jukebox rental and repair company. The chairman and founder of Konami was Kagemasa Kozuki who later transformed the business into manufacturing place for arcade game machines. Other than video games they company later supported other products such as the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game helping operate as their product distributor. As well as casino gaming business within the United States. Overall Konami Corporation fall under four type of businesses which are “health and fitness, gaming systems, amusement, and digital entertainment.” The goal of Konami is stated “ We, the Konami Group, aim to be an enterprise that will continue to keep our stakeholders always looking forward with anticipation as we create and provide our current and future customers with products and services that offer “Valuable Time.” Konami has four guiding principles to achieve their company goals. These four principles are customer-oriented, our challenge, response to change, and compliance. The customers come first, Konami wants to maximize customers satisfaction by providing them with the highest level of their products and services. The challenges for Konami is creativity and innovation in order to provide their customer will never before felt experiences of excitement. Response to change, that not only Konami but all company must be aware of to keep up with the needs that constantly changes. Finally compliance, following the laws and ethics to gain the trust and support of Konami’s stakeholders. Konami’s employees must be able to recognize any error that can have negative effects on the business productions.
Konami has been report for mistreating their staff workers as if they were prisoners. Example from Nikkei (the media corporation in Japan) explain how employees were being treated. One example is that employee will be monitored on their breaks and those that stay out long have their name announced over the company announcements. Another example are the employee’s office will have camera in them to monitor there every move. Note that these camera are not install for security reasons. All employees must constantly keep changing their email addresses instead of being allowed one permanent email address. They said the purpose of this constant email is to prevent headhunting. Headhunting is the process of finding capable candidates for executive job positions within the company or for outside companies. Finally those employee who doesn’t have what it take as game developers, are demoted to positions as security, janitors, fitness teachers, pachi-slot machine factory. People who were demoted to the pachi-slot machine factory have suffer from severe depression. In conclusion, even the most successful companies have their bad issues. Konami I still respect the company as being the product distributor of my favorite card game. However they way they treat their employee I can’t agree with those conditions. Even though I haven’t been through the similar conditions, I still understand the feelings. I understand the feeling of depression being in a job position that makes you feel useless and not valued in your skills. And to be constantly observe by a boss or manager who think you can’t be trusted to do their jobs. So Konami even though yourself is mainly based on your employee’s performance, do a better job and treat them with more respect and humanity. Citations Konami Group : Our Corporate goal.
