1:1
Read STRATEGIES FOR LEARNING ASL on pages 4-5. Choose a strategy you will work on for the next month.
Write down the strategy and why you chose to use it.(5 points)
I choose strategy 1 (build a language community). Since I have had previous experience with learning another
language, I really noticed the difference in my ability to learn when I started to communicate with my fellow
classmates more in Japanese over communicating in English. Using the language outside of class was really my
lifesaver in Japanese and now I know that I have to do it for ASL in order to keep up my vocabulary. Now that I
have a coworker who is in a higher level ASL class, I can start to use ASL at work. We have already started
signing numbers and letters from across the room so I can practice.
